Weighing Marijuana – Grams | Ounces | Quarters | Pounds

Understanding how to weigh out your marijuana is essential to purchasing, smoking, cooking, well any consumption of the wonderful herb.  So you are here for a math lesson, so lets dive in!

Grams are technically speaking a “the absolute weight of a volume of pure water equal to the cube of the hundredth part of a metre, and at the temperature of melting ice.”  Anyway who cares, it is probably the smallest unit of measure you will deal with when purchasing Marijuana.  For good measure you need to know that there are 1000 Milligrams in a gram.

An ounce, an OZ, a Zip, its got many names, for all you care though is that an ounce of the devil’s lettuce is equal to 28 grams.  From here we can define the rest of the lingo, eighths (1/8), quarters (1/4), halves (1/2).  As they are all referred to as measurement portions of an ounce.

Half’s or Halves

Exactly as it says, 1/2 (One-Half) of an ounce, so that would be 14 grams.

1/4 (One-Quarter) of an ounce, so that would be 7 grams.

1/8 (One-Eighth) of an ounce, 3.5 grams.

Ahhh the biggest for last, well not the biggest, the almighty pound – 16 ounces, or 448 grams.

Oh – here you are to sound gangster, want a kilo, well lets hop back into the metric system, where things are oddly simpler. 1000 grams makes up a Kilo, that is a lot of ganja…
